The “GREEN KEY” label is an international eco-label for tourist accommodation, awarded to establishments that meet a set of environmental criteria. This label has over 3,000 holders worldwide across some 60 countries. For more information: https://laclefverte.org
In practical terms, at La Bachée, we are committed to ensuring responsible management from both an environmental and social perspective, as well as to minimising the impact of our activities on the environment.
La Bachée holiday cottage was awarded this label in February 2016, but our commitment to more sustainable tourism is ongoing:
- Monitoring water, gas and electricity consumption (installation of 36 solar panels and a thermodynamic water heater).
- Reducing waste by cutting down on consumption, reusing items, composting waste at the bottom of the garden, and sorting waste – an activity in which we encourage our visitors to participate using designated bins (including corks, plastic caps and items for the recycling centre).
- Promoting sustainable transport: walking, cycling (notably through the ‘Bienvenue Vélo’ scheme), travelling by bus (one route runs along the street) and by train (Braine-L’Alleud station on SNCB line 124, directly connected by the bus route).
- Support for the ‘Lasne nature’ association, which is active in the village through a newsletter, advice, on-the-ground initiatives, feature articles and natural products. Information here: http://lasne-nature.be,
- Promoting local supply chains from nearby farms and producers and raising awareness of them amongst our visitors, in particular: https://lesjardinsdulanternier.be
- And above all, we seek to share experiences and best practices!
Thanks to the “BIENVENUE VELO” scheme, which we have been part of since 2015, Gîte La Bachée is listed in the POINTS NOEUDS network for cycling maps. These are green and white signs indicating a node (a number) that helps you find your way along routes in Walloon Brabant (produced by the MTBW (Walloon Brabant Tourist Office)).
Maps are available at the Gîte, but can also be downloaded from the website: http://visitwallonia.be, where you’ll find a wealth of information about Walloon Brabant, a destination well worth visiting!
LA BACHEE is situated between node points 47 and 84:
